Impact of Digital Media on Global Investment Banking
Dear Global Investor:
You can't talk about the future of global investment banking and the Internet without talking about bandwidth and digital media technologies. In our digital environment, bandwidth is not merely a traditional infrastructure cost, it's the essential raw material that fuels business growth.
Briefly, bandwidth describes the amount of data a network can transport in a certain period of time. In other words, it's the capacity for rate of transfer, usually expressed in bits per second. Without bandwidth expansion, the explosion in connectivity would only mean increased end-user frustration.
And digital media technologies stand to be the driving force that will dominate more and more of our wired world and online global investment banking business in the future.
With increased bandwidth, however, comes faster connections and downloads, and bandwidth expansion makes way for high-performance digital multi-media. As bandwidth expands, so do the possibilities for Web interfaces that deliver enhanced interactivity.
Today, most web pages are text driven with graphics limited in file size so as not to take forever to download. That stands to change dramatically.
It's said, a picture says a thousand words.
So imagine how effective it is to present investment opportunities using graphic animation and video streaming. The future is moving beyond simple flash animation, java and shockwave. We'll see more and more dynamic technologies that converge voice, data, video, and multi-media for prompt delivery of highly interactive content to convey a company's offering / technology product message far better than any amount of text ever could.
Webcasting and audio/video streaming is now being used in the online entertainment and media industries. Corporate America is capitalizing on it to deliver events such as shareholder meetings to a broader virtual global audience, and to utilize on-demand Webcasting for Virtual Roadshows.
And this is just the beginning. With the arrival of increased broadband, and the relatively low cost for impacting a vast global audience, Webcasting will prove to be a important technology for spurring global securities transactions and B2B growth.
Technologies like data visualization and 3D and 2D integration will eventually migrate from government and military uses to the private sector, especially in investment banking. We're already seeing it explode in the online gaming industry. Eventually it will be harnessed by the business and financial sector as it's a highly useful means for pulling together all kinds of unstructured data including documents, images, product specifications. It will allow global investors a first hand view of a proprietary product design, a manufacturing facility, or a high-tech medical procedure.
You are invited to visit VistaWEB's Virtual Wall Street World to download and navigate our 3D / 2D next generation trading experience complete with ticker tape, space tunnel, trading floor, secured conference room, sound track, bots and real time chat line.
We may also witness other groundbreaking developments such as "synthetic characters", or computer generated human-like beings. Instead of DNA, flesh and bones, these extremely lifelike characters are the end product of a vast number of large digital files that not only construct a human face, but animate every muscle and deliver synchronized speech.
While the obvious commercial application of such a technology may be in the media and film industries, who knows? We may eventually see it incorporated into Virtual Roadshows, financial broadcasts, even animated columns in IPO Guys like this one today.
Some of this may sound like it's right out of a science fiction movie. But it's a brave new world we're entering, and today we're just seeing the tip of the iceberg of what's to come.
At VistaWEB, we're innovating by using digital multi-media and webcasting to drive IPO transactions. And developing end-to-end IPO Spotlight ™ micro-sites for each offering.
As an investment bank born in the digital age, VistaWEB isn't doing things the way it's always been done. With the power of the Internet behind VistaWEB, we're out there Changing the Face of Investment Banking.
With best wishes,
